They say that to be the man, you got to beat the man. Last night, at the 2013 K-1 World Grand Prix finals, Mirko Cro Cop proved that he still is “Da Man”. The former UFC and PRIDE superstar went through 3 very tough opponents to become the 2013 K-1 World Grand Prix Champion in his hometown, Zagreb, Croatia.

In the first leg of the competition, Cro Cop defeated a much younger Jarrell Miller via unanimous decision, earning a spot in the semi-finals. While some people thought that Miller had the “W”, the judges saw otherwise and gave the win to Cro Cop. In the semi-finals, Cro Cop had to face Ukraine’s Pavel Zhuravle, who was a much bigger and younger fighter. Cro Cop once again, to the delight of his fans, went in there and showed Zhuravle who’s boss, hitting him with huge liver kicks and even dropping him with a straight right. It reminded fans of the Cro Cop from back in the day and it certainly impressed the judges enough to send him to the finals.

In the finals, Cro Cop faced Ismael Londt. On paper, it seemed that Cro Cop would get annihilated by Londt, who is a training partner of Melvin Manhoef. However, Cro Cop proved everyone wrong for the 3rd time of the night and he laid enough punishment on Londt to win via decision and finally become the K-1 World Grand Prix champion. It was a historic night for a legend in our world of combat sports.

Here’s the fight video of the finals between Cro Cop and Londt, enjoy it Nation.
