What is going on over there in Thailand? While we love the land of a thousand smiles and a whole truckload of cute petite chicks, this MMA thing is wrecking our brain. Is it banned or is it legal? Is it cool to have it on a far away island that has been graced by Leonardo Dicaprio but not okay to have it in Bangkok? Is Jon Nutt ever going to fight again? We have no idea but the MMA situation over there is pretty freaking wacky. Why can’t it just be consistent just like how hot Thai women are?

While DARE remains in the Underground plotting it’s next plan lay to infuse the Asian MMA scene with some rebel awesomeness, it seems that there’s going to be some MMA action going down at Koh Samui this Friday. Friday Night Fight Night in Koh Samui will be featuring 2 MMA bouts. Will Chope takes on Thanapong Kunhankeaw (aka Lana Warrior) while Alex Denic will go head to head with Tondamrong Panjabut. The event will feature MMA, Muay Thai and kickboxing bouts.

Whether or not these fights are sanctioned and “legal” are beyond our knowledge but whatever it is, it’s a good step forward for the development of the sport in Thailand. Check out the proof in this event poster below.

  1. Thai police were at the event to over see the action. The MMA fights were reffed by former Pride Fighter Hans Nijman, and the Muay Thai fights sanctioned by Samui Muay Thai council.

Everything went smoothly, the next show is going down March 29th.

MMA is not banned in Thailand, the Banned thing is DARE marketing ploy.
