Sources close to the situation have just confirmed with us that Takeya Mizugaki vs TJ Dillashaw has been added to UFC 173.
Takeya Mizugaki (19-7-2) has been on a roll in the UFC, going on a 4 fight win streak since UFC Macau in 2012. Mizugaki had a fantastic 2013, defeating Jeff Hougland, Bryan Caraway, Erik Perez and, most recently, Nam Phan last December. Mizugaki is without a doubt one of the most successful Japanese fighters in North America, having a great run in not only the UFC, but also in the now defunct WEC.
His opponent, T.J. Dillashaw (9-2), will be a huge challenge for Mizugaki. Fighting out of the very successful Team Alphamale, Dillashaw has gone 5-1 in his last 6 fights. Dillashaw was last seen defeating Mike Easton at UFC Fight Night 35 via unanimous decision. Dillashaw fights alongside other Team Alphamale team mates such as Urijah Faber and Joseph Benavidez.
This will be a huge fight for both men as a win will bring them closer to a match up with current bantamweight kingpin Renan Barao. UFC 173 will take place on May 24, 2014 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. It will be headlined by a middleweight title fight between Chris Weidman and Vitor Belfort.
