TFN’s Predictions for ONE FC 2: The Main Card

It’s been approximately 5 months since ONE Fighting Championship held it’s inaugural show at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, which by all means, was a major success for the young promotion. This weekend, ONE FC returns to the cage but this time it’ll be at the Kelapa Gading Sports Mall in Jakarta, Indonesia. This will not only be ONE FC’s second event but it will be Mixed Martial Art’s return to Indonesia. The ONE FC card looks stacked with international talent from countries like Malaysia, Brazil, the Philippines as well as local Indonesian talent as well. Like it’s first event, there will be a total of 10 fights, 5 on the main card and another 5 on the undercard.

So, since we’re 2 days away from the event and personally, the TFN crew are psyched up for this event as well, we’d thought we offer our humble “non-professional fighter” opinion on how the fights are going to go down for the main card. The TFN crew been going back and forth on the fights but we eventually managed to come to mutual agreements on the outcomes.

This is our breakdown on the Main Card for ONE FC 2. If you don’t agree with it, then you can start your own site and give your own expert opinion (or post it up as a Facebook status):

ONE FC 2: Battle of the Heroes, Main Card Breakdown

Main Event: Felipe Enomoto vs Ole Laursen

This fight is deserving as a main event. Both fighters are highly decorated and experienced in their own right. Enomoto is a former Cage Fighters Championship European champion who has been training in BJJ for almost a decade and in Muay Thai for around 8 years. He has a 5-3-1 fight record and has been fighting professionally since 2006.

His opponent, Ole Laursen needs no introduction. He’s a former K-1 kickboxer who is no stranger to the big fight scenario. Not only is he a world class kickboxer, Ole has gained much experience on the ground through his years of training at his Legacy camp. Currently Ole has a 5-2 MMA record. His only losses came from Genki Sudo and Carl Uno in his first 2 MMA fights. Ole is currently entering this fight on a 5 fight win streak but you should know that his last fight was way back in October 2010. Ole was actually supposed to fight on the first ONE FC card but was forced to pull out due to an injury.

We see this fight going either way. Both men need to win this fight. Ole simply because this is his return fight in the cage since 2010. Felipe needs to win this fight because he’s on a 2 fight losing streak and he definitely doesn’t want to extend it. We see Ole trying to keep this standing and go for the KO or TKO victory. Filepe, given his background would most likely trying to capitalize on his ground game.

With the years of experience behind him, we give the edge to Ole Laursen. He’s used to these big fights and is on a 5 fight winning streak. Even if Ole gets taken down by Filepe, we’re pretty certain he can hold his own on the ground. The only question mark in play here is that Ole has been on the shelf for more than a year and may have cage rust. This is something we have to see on fight day but as of now we think Ole’s chances are pretty damn good.

TFN prediction: Ole Laursen gets the win by KO or TKO

Bae Young Kwon vs Honorio Banario

The Korean, Bae Young Kwon just came off a unanimous decision win over the very tough Brian Choi from the Evolve Fight Team and has a background in Judo. Primarily fighting for ROAD FC and Shooto, this is his first fight under the ONE FC flag and he has been given a very tough opponent in the URCC Lightweight Champion, Honorio Banario.

While some people may think that Honorio may not be as dangerous as an opponent as Bae’s original opponent, Eric Kelly, Honorio is in fact just as tough an opponent as Kelly. Honorio has a perfect 6-0 and fights out of one of the top teams in Asia, Team Lakay. Honorio, much like his team mates such as Eduard Folayang, he has a background in Wushu but has also been training diligently in other disciplines as well. Honorio has a history of winning by punching his opponents into submission. How badass is that?

We’re pretty sure that this is going to be a very tough fight. Both seem to be well rounded fighters both on the ground as well as standing and it’s extremely hard to pick a winner for this fight. However, we have to go with the Team Lakay standout. He’s a URCC champion and like most Filipinos fighters, he has durability and natural toughness. We pick him to get the W and do the Philippines proud.

TFN Prediction: Honorio Banario with the win by TKO

Rustam Khabilov vs Rodrigo Ribeiro

Rustam is aM-1 Global veteran and trains out of Jackson’s MMA. The Russian is a also Combat Sambo World Champion who has only 1 split decision loss in his career thus far and has a 12-1 MMA record. His opponent, Rodrigo Ribeiro, simply know as “Ximbica” to his fans, is a 3rd degree Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt with over 20 years of experience and has a 12-8 MMA record.

One would think that with Rustam being a Sambo champion and Ximbica being a BJJ Blackbelt, that this would be a grappling match. However, we see it the other way around. We think that because both are such high level grapplers, they will cancel each other out and that we can expect a stand up war between the 2. Should this happen, we give the edge to Ximbica because he has been training with Muay Thai World Champion Namsaknoi Yudthagarngamtorn and WBA Champion, Yodsanan Sityodtong to perfect his stand up skills. It’ll be interesting though to not only see the 2 fight each other but to also represent 2 gyms that arguably are the best in the West and in the East respectively.

TFN Prediction: Rodrigo Ribeiro with the win via Split Decision

Soo Chul Kim vs Gustavo Falciroli

Soo Chul Kim has been regarded one of the hottest prospects in the Korean MMA scene. Gustavo Falciroli is the current CFC Bantamweight Champion. Soo has a fight record of 4-2 while the Aussie has a stacked record of 11-3. Gustavo, like Soo’s last opponent, Leandro Issa, is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt. This may make Soo try to keep this fight standing to avoid the submission. However, should he be taken down, we’re sure that he’ll be able to hold his own.

While we’re big fans of Soo, we don’t see him getting the W for this fight. Furthermore he’s coming off a 2 fight losing streak (one lost to Andrew Leone and another to Leandro Issa) and we don’t think he has enough ammo to defeat the more experienced CFC Champion.

TFN Prediction: Gustavo Falciroli with the win via Unanimous Decision

Rolles Gracie vs Bob Sapp

Son of one of the pioneers of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Rolls Gracie, Rolles Gracie is riding on a 2 fight win streak going into this fight. Bob Sapp has lost 10 out of his 11 past fights. While Sapp is always a fan favourite, we really don’t see Bob Sapp doing anything to put Gracie in danger. We see this fight ending in only one way, Sapp tapping out.

TFN Prediction: Rolles Gracie with the win via submission
